Selection Criteria

Selection criteria are sets of rules that you can apply to profiles or devices. The rules are generally device properties such as the model name or OS type, but you can also assign custom properties. These criteria can define which mobile devices or smart devices receive a profile or are added to a group.

Use selection criteria to:

•Assign mobile devices to folders.

•Selectively distribute profiles to devices within a region or folder.

•Dynamically assign devices to device groups.

•Restrict the distribution of packages to devices that can use them.

•Create filters for your device inventory.

Building selection criteria

The Selection Criteria Builder provides a list of operators and preset selection variables, and also allows you to add custom properties as selection variables.

The elements the Selection Criteria Builder uses include: selection variables such as ModelName or OsType, operators such as AND (&) and OR (|), and actual values that are assigned to a selection variable such as a specific model name or OS type.

Try it yourself - Using selection criteria to create a mobile device group for a specific device model

Mobile device groups allow you to manage multiple devices simultaneously, using the tools available for managing individual mobile devices. You can use selection criteria to sort devices into these groups. This example uses selection criteria to create a dynamic mobile device group for a specific device model. As devices enroll that meet the selection criteria, they will be added to the group automatically.

1.Click the Inventory tab.

2.In the Mobile Device Groups panel, click New.
The New Mobile Device Group dialog box appears.

3.Type a Name for the group.

4.Select Dynamic.

5.Click Launch wizard to launch the Selection Criteria Builder.

6.From the Properties drop down menu, select ModelName.

7.Click Insert.

8.Click the = button.

9.Type the model name of the devices.

•Example expression: ModelName = 6840

10.Click Validate to validate the selection criteria.

11.Click OK.

12.Click Save to save your changes.
The group is created and the mobile devices matching the selection criteria are added.

When a mobile device group is enabled, you can use the mobile device group as a selection criterion. For example, you can specify that a profile is only applied to devices that belong to the mobile device group.
